Pennethorne's

Description

Pennethorne’s, the sophisticated wine and cocktail bar located in the New Wing of Somerset House with a private Drawing Room and a spacious terrace for al fresco drinks and nibbles. Open all day, for morning coffee and croissants, light lunches and sophisticated evening cocktails. The carefully curated wine list is influenced by the Grand Tour of Europe popular in the Victorian era when the New Wing was built, with a focus on France, Spain and Italy. The menu also includes a monthly wine specials. An evening small bites menu accompanies the drinks, also focusing on classic flavours from the European Grand Tour locations of France, Italy and Spain.

Pennethorne’s is named after Sir James Pennethorne, the 19th century English architect who designed the New Wing at Somerset House where the bar is located. The menus and interior at Pennethorne’s are inspired by Sir James’ Grand Tour of Europe in the early 19th century, which informed many of his later buildings, including his work at Somerset House. Conveniently located between The Strand and Waterloo Bridge, Pennethorne’s is also situated within a few minutes of Covent Garden and Theatreland.
