But The Gun isn’t just about great food and drinks , it’s dripping with stories.

Dating back to the early 18th century, it earned its name from the cannon fired to celebrate the opening of the West India Docks in 1802. Lord Nelson himself was a frequent visitor, meeting Lady Emma Hamilton in what is now the "River Room" for their secret rendezvous. The Gun also has a long association with smugglers landing contraband on the site and distributing it via a hidden tunnel. To this day there is still a spy-hole in the secret circular staircase to watch out for “The Revenue Men”.
