The man, the voice, the moves - please welcome, an evening dedicated to Soul Brother Number One: James Brown.
With a career spanning over and incredible 50 years, it don’t take much to explain why James is hailed of the Godfather of Funk. A progenitor of funk music, a major figure of 20th-century music and the most sampled artist in the world, Brown has shaped music history and subsequently modern sound forever.
Brown began his career as a gospel singer in Georgia before joining R&B vocal group, the Gospel Starlighters who were founded by the well known and respected talent scout: Bobby Byrd. Throughout the 1950’s James built himself a reputation and respect as a tireless performer, and over time moved into centre stage with his own backing band; The James Brown Orchestra. His fame peaked in the 1960’s with the release of timeless classics such as “I Feel Good”, “This is a Man’s Man’s Man’s World” and “Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag”.
James recorded an outstanding 17 singles that reached number one on the Billboard R&B Charts and shaped funk into a genre and movement looked on as one of the great American musical cultures, its rhythms and hooks reverberating throughout popular music.
Forever remembered as one of the most famous, eccentric and best-loved acts in the world with his outrageous fashion, freaky music and newfound sound - we’re celebrating his legacy.
Our incredible house band will be honouring this musical master with live performances the finest selection of James Brown sounds.
