Best Beer Garden 2014 - DesignMyNight Awards

Grand Union Brixton is an impressive eatery and cocktail bar boasting a spectacular beer garden. Set in the heart of Brixton on Acre Lane, the two-storey venue is known for its indulgent burgers, thirteen chapters of cocktails and fairy-lit outdoor space.

You can come down and tuck into plenty of indulgent treats throughout the day, but we'd recommend stopping by to take advantage of their lunch offer. Running from 12 to 3pm, you can enjoy a lip-smacking burger, fries and a soft drink for just £6.50. The cocktail card really is comprehensive, catering for all kinds of tastes and coming your way for 2 for £10 cocktails until 8pm every day and all day on Sunday.

The food, drink and decor is great, but the Thai commune styled pleasure garden is the real star of the show. You can rent out a private tree hut, while away the hours in a hammock, warm yourself by the giant fire pit and just generally soak in the ambiance of one of London's best al fresco spots.

Grand Union Brixton - DJ Bar Review

Grand Union Brixton - DJ Bar Review

A five-minute stroll from Brixton tube, Grand Union Brixton is a cheery bar. I’d heard rumours that this gem came alive at the weekends and is a certified honeypot for the young professionals of the area, so I decided to head over to see...

Genuinely one of the worst places I've ever been - my friend paid £100 for two booths for her birthday, when we arrived at 8.40 we were told it was one in one out. We were confused & asked if there were people in the booths we'd booked and paid for, my friend who's birthday it was complained to a man named Aiden with a clip board who claimed to be the manager. In a calm voice she asked why we weren't allowed in and was told to keep quiet otherwise she wouldn't be allowed in at all. We were outside for about half an hour longer before the birthday girl's boyfriend complained and made a seen and we were eventually allowed in (still having to pay for entry) When we eventually got in the bar staff were extremely slow and we were left for 20 minutes waiting for a drink which were also ridiculously overpriced, the garden closed at 10.30 which meant we barely had any time in the expensive booths, bouncers were rude and there was one single toilet downstairs which always had a ridiculously long queue. I will not be returning & would advise anyone to avoid at all costs.

Hi Emily, Thanks for your feedback. Apologies you felt disappointed, I have investigated this matter further and would be happy to discuss the issues with you. We do recommend to all guests that they get here as early as possible as we reach capacity very early. Entry is complimentary with an area booking until 8:30pm and this is explained to all guests at the time of booking. Unfortunately, we do get very busy on Saturdays and so sometimes queues for the bar do build up. We do offer table service in the garden for all hut bookers to allow a smoother process. We do also tell all bookers that the garden closes at 10:30pm and this is stated in the terms & conditions sent over with the booking confirmation. With regards to the toilets, we have 3 other cubicles upstairs as well as the downstairs toilet. If you would like to discuss these issues further, please feel free to contact me on 0207 274 8794. Kind regards, Tyra Thompson Sales and Marketing Executive T: 0207 274 8794 E:

The Grand union chain is one of my faves. Youre guaranteed a good night. Bar staff are always friendly and the music is a good mix of current and classics!

After 3 successful Christmas work do's here, I say they know how to accommodate a large party rather well. Plus there's a cat that pops up in the garden sometimes!

I had the best night here for my birthday on Saturday, the 4th of June! The staff were amazing, the bar manger organised a couple of bottles of bubbles on the house. Such a cool beer garden, all my friends who came were going on how its such a good venue choice! The only annoying thing was, the door staff are quite strict and your name isn't on the guest list, they give you a hard time.

Really cool bar!! If you go, make sure you go outside as that is the best bit. In winter there is a tent over it with fairy lights everywhere and small cabins you can reserve. And in the summer it is open air. Thai themed area outside with tuktuk and Thai named cabins. Chilled out place. Outside closes quite early but dancing inside was fun. Only negative was that my (gin and) tonic water tasted like soda water (gross), so got a gin and tonic from the tap at the bar which was much better.

Great bar, many a fun time had there spontaneously. However, it's quite extraordinary how the rude and unprofessional attitude of one individual when trying to make a birthday booking can completely change ones opinion of such a place.

Absolutely love this pub/bar! The beer garden is amazing and the vibe is incredible especially on a hot day when the sun is out! The staff are great, I've now booked my birthday party there in June, very excited about it.

Great location between Clapham & Brixton, the outside area is a mini sun trap in the summer. Always busy with a great vibe, bar staff are friendly and drink aren't badly priced. Big fan.

Nicely tucked away from the busier parts of Brixton/Clapham. Absolutely killer garden - came here in the summer soaking up the sun and beers whilst playing lots of table tennis!

Definitely deserving of the best beer garden title. I visited on a Saturday afternoon and sat out in the sun. A selection of craft beers is the thing this place is missing, but apart from that it's a really good shout for daytime drinking. Need to check it out in the evenings but I've heard it's just as good.

Fantastic vibe! Its had to believe you are in the city. I would defiantly recommend it for a birthday . The ques are long to get in, but worth the wait.

Tried this place out on Saturday night for my birthday. Tried to make it for the happy hour cocktails until 8pm but just missed it. Didn't matter too much though, as they served one £5 cocktail all night (think it changes each day) - although it seemed only 1 person on the bar knew about this deal so make sure you're clear about this deal when you order. Cocktail was delicious and was made properly with fresh fruit. We ended up having to pay £5 into the place (which we didn't expect) but it turned out to be worth it as we stayed later than expected and had a dance to the 90's R&B upstairs to finish the night off (as we were asked to leave the closing garden area at about 10pm). Toilets are awful - take loo roll / hand sanitiser and there's not enough toilets for the amount of people so be prepared to queue. Best part about it is definitely the beer garden though. It looks as impressive in real life as it does on the pics here. If you're going for an occasion I'd recommend booking an area. We were lucky enough to nab a free bench by elbowing our way through when people were leaving.

Totally Love this place!!! Hidden gem in Brixton... Drinks are cheap, good service & a great place for an outdoor area! Fun place for a large groups & there are smaller areas you can book for birthdays etc

Awful place, extremely rude door staff and bar staff. Don;t speak English and are aggressive and rude to all. Atmosphere terrible and total rip off. Racist staff, bringing their Eastern Block mentality with them. Not worth a visit under any circumstances.

This pub is still doing the business, fantastic beer garden and a great mix of cocktails, beers and comfort American food going on. Can get very lively at the weekends and is a cool sunday hang out.

Great food and beer garden. Awesome when the weather is great. Good place for beers during the daytime.

Mixed reviews, but if you're after a solid pub in the Brixton area then this place is worth checking out.

The atmosphere on a bank holiday Monday afternoon was understandably quiet, but the food was absolutely fantastic and the staff were very friendly. The two-for-one voucher for burgers (which the barman said could actually be used on all meals) made lunch particularly good value.

The best beer garden in London!!! The Thai Style beach huts are awesome. Definitely a bar not to be missed!
