A staple of Leeds' dining scene for over a decade, The Foundry has undergone a transformation under direction from Matt Healy.
As one of the city's most famed restaurants, The Foundry has been considered an institution for many years. Now, Yorkshire-born chef Matt Healy has injected a new lease of life into the Holbeck establishment. The renovated interior and refreshed menu come as part of Healy's casual fine dining vision; serving up delicious British food, while still accessible and informal. The space is now bright and airy, with exposed brickwork and subtly lit ceilings, alongside an open kitchen. Neon lights and handpainted murals give a youthful touch. After working at El Gato Negro - Manchester's only city centre restaurant to hold a Michelin Bib Gourmand, Healy competed in MasterChef: The Professionals, placing as runner up. Since then, he has worked at London's acclaimed Terroirs and spearheaded a series of pop-ups.
Remaining true to The Foundry's past, expect a unique take on British classics, with a modern finish. Minimal waste is key here, as dishes explore bold flavours, alongside more delicate ones. Drinks come in the form of quality cocktails, gin & tonics and a hand-picked wine list - curated by partner Iain Silver, who runs the bar. With a changing menu, you can begin with charcuterie and snacks like smokey cider-soaked chorizo, before moving onto small plates such as the melt-in-your-mouth hand-cut beef tartare and more substantial offerings which include pollock with charred leeks, potatoes and Romanesco sauce. Make sure you leave room for afters, like the moreish creme brulee doughnut.
