The Bungo

A Southside bar, with city style and neighbourhood vibes, The Bungo is one of the most popular venues for a Glasgow night out south of the Clyde. The busy upstairs bar and restaurant has a cosmopolitan feel with low hanging lighting, brushed steel fittings, feature walls, a fireplace and exposed brickwork.

Downstairs, a wallpapered space, available for private hire, offers a little touch of twee to The Bungo's decor. A hot spot with locals, the bar is a bustling joint with weekly quizzes and live music, along with regular comedy and improv nights - the Greater Shawlands Republic comedy troupe are a particular Bungo favourite.

An accomplished food menu offers a striking selection of fine fare, with dishes like superfood salad, harissa chicken, and halloumi and courgette shawarma. Small dishes make for great drinking nibbles, while regular beer and burger nights give drinkers an excuse to chow down on gourmet patties. Drinks include a wide selection of malts as well as a small but mighty cocktail selection. With delicious house drinks such as white chocolate and raspberry creme brulee, earl grey martini, and rhubarb treacle, The Bungo is worth making the journey south for.

The bungo is over-rated but still good. The service is friendly and it's a nice venue but the food can be quite hit or miss (the breakfasts are better than the evening meals) and at times the service is inexplicably slow.
