The Mitre

Close to Waverly Station, The Mitre stands proudly on the world-famous Royal Mile.

Given the venue’s prime location, it’s not surprising that there’s plenty to see nearby, including Edinburgh Castle, The Museum of Edinburgh, and Calton Hill.

As you’d expect from such an iconic Scottish location, the pub serves up the best of classic pub food – think satisfying, hearty meals, washed down with a choice of local cask ales and spirits.

The pub has a rich and intriguing history. In 1615, the site was occupied by a tenement owned by John Spottiswood, the Bishop of St Andrews. The building burned down in 1814 and was replaced by The Mitre Bar. According to local legend, the bishop’s throne is buried under the bar area and his spirit is said to haunt the pub.
