The Cobblestone

Nestled in the heart of Smithfield, Dublin, The Cobblestone is a legendary, family-run pub that has become a cornerstone of Ireland’s traditional music scene. Owned by Tom Mulligan and operated by the Mulligan family since 1987, the pub is steeped in musical heritage - Tom himself comes from a long line of musicians, and his mission has always been to preserve and promote Irish music. Its unrivaled live music sessions take place seven days a week. 

The interior is rustic and unpretentious, with wooden furnishings, low lighting, and walls adorned with musical instruments and memorabilia, creating an atmosphere that feels both timeless and deeply rooted in community.

It has earned accolades from The Guardian, which called it “Ireland’s most famous traditional music pub,” and Condé Nast Traveller, which praised its sessions as among the best live traditional music experiences anywhere. The pub has also been featured in documentaries and international media, and it famously resisted redevelopment plans in 2021 thanks to a massive public outcry. Today, The Cobblestone stands as a cultural institution - more than just a pub, it’s a living archive of Irish folk tradition.
