Description

The Blind Pig is a hidden watering hole, secretly tucked away in Dublin's city centre. This swanky speakeasy is known for the quality and artistry of its cocktails - each of which truly evokes the mood of the 1920s prohibition era.

Naturally, when visiting this bootleggers haven, expect to find candlelit tables, rich deep mahogany furniture and prohibition paraphernalia. Everything about this venue is super secret - even the menus are hidden in the pages of old books set on the tables... a nice touch! Of course, the roaring twenties theme runs strong here, all of the bartenders are dressed charmingly, donning shirts, ties and sleeve garters.

Naturally, you're probably raring to know about cocktails... rest assured, they're even better than you'd hope. The Blind Pig's impeccable quality of beverages is thanks to the internationally award-winning mixologist Paul Lambert. With his expertly-crafted cocktail menu, everything here promises to tantalise the taste buds of cocktail lovers.

I would describe it as just being fine. The whole atmosphere is very good and the staff do a really good job of giving the speakeasy vibe, however when i arrived the "secret" door was already open which ruined the illusion a bit. I was a bit worried when my food arrived less than 10 minutes after ordering , actually arriving before my drink order, never had this experience and it was a bit suspect. It is a bit pricey but you pay for the experience , all in all it was a one trip kind of place. Would not recommend if you are claustrophobic !! visited The Blind Pig on 09 Jun 2017

Two of us arrived at the Blind Pig and we were a bit early for our booking. So we had the place to ourselves at first except for the two men working in the bar / restaurant. Their attire was strange with over long aprons and these weird pork pie style hats they wore. Not recognizable as being from the prohibition era in which the venue is supposed to reflect. (I will get back to the waiters in a bit). The music was modern pop which completely altered the atmosphere and feel of the venue. Without the authentic feel of a 1920/1930s venue it felt like being in a cramped underground wine cellar with two strange men that didn't offer smiles easily. The bar man showed us to our table. He presented us with the cocktail menu and with an accent and tone that can only be described as one of a Russian assassin, proceeded to explain that this was the list of cocktails recommended for the evening. If we wished to have something not on the menu we could ask him. So after looking at the menu my girlfriend decided she would like a whiskey sour, which was not on the menu. She wanted this as this cocktail has a sentimental significance as we drank them on our first date. She got the attention of the waiter and asked him could we have a whiskey sour. We were sitting beside each other on one side of the table and upon hearing our request he sat down across from my girlfriend and asked her again with the accent an tone of a Russian assassin, why she wanted a cocktail not on the menu. She didn't want to go into a story about our first date and also felt like if she continued in her pursuit for a unlisted cocktail we mightn't make it out of the underground pop dungeon. So we picked something from the menu. The cocktails were tasty. But I have a feeling that they were tasty for the same reason an inmate on death-row finds his/her last meal tasty..... This may be the last thing one experiences on this earth. The other waiter later brought over a laminated A3 food menu. Which also detracted from the atmosphere. It felt and looked like a menu from a cheap American diner. The food selection was limited and not special in any way. By the time we had received and read the menu a few more couples had entered and sat down. One couple were brought pizza in a takeaway box and a bowl of chips. Neither of which was an option on our menu! We ordered smoked salmon and beef carpaccio and I asked if I could have chips. The waiter looked at me and grudgingly said yes to my fries request. As if I had discovered something I shouldn't have. I thought maybe the chips were on another "secret menu" in keeping with the theme of the secrecy of the location of the venue. We looked through the old second hand style books that were propped up on the table. There indeed were other food and drinks menus which were different to the ones the waiter gave us but still no chips or pizza to be found! What could be found inside though, and this is not a joke, was pictures of concentration camps and one particularly disturbing image of an emaciated Jewish man in one of the camps. I actually got a bit nervous and concerned at that point. But we had already ordered and didn't want to cause a scene by leaving. We also were unsure if you could open the door to the restaurant from the inside. Would we make it out alive? We asked the other waiter who was slightly less intimidating for some wine recommendations. He didn't have a clue. We asked for a "nice white" and he came back with a bottle. We asked could we have it by the glass and he had to go and check. He proceeded to leave the restaurant though a door at the back. What / who was back there that would give him this information. It transpired we couldn't have this wine by the glass, so we just asked him to bring us whatever white wine was available by the glass. The food came out and was completely average. Something you would whip up for yourself in two minutes for a quick lunch. We made the most of our time in this weird uncomfortable situation we found ourselves in and we just laughed at how strange the whole experience was. When we left (we were allowed leave thank god) we contemplated if we turned back and tried to find the entrance again that it wouldn't exist and what we experienced was some strange and dark dream. visited The Blind Pig on 07 May 2017

The place was nice and the cocktails even better but it was too noisy to enjoy it completely. With a quieter envitonment it would be so much better. It was not fault of the personnel working there who were so professional, but there should be something to show the customers that there is no need to shout all the time like if you were in a night club. visited The Blind Pig on 27 May 2017

Hi. I was here for cocktails last night, from 20:30. It is a great venue but is greatly let down by its staff - our order was taken upon arrival but I had to walk up to the bar (where the floor staff were sitting) to order our next two rounds. We left early because of this and will not be returning unless proper table service is put in place. visited The Blind Pig on 23 May 2017

I would give the place and average rating. The service was a bit scattered. Meals didn't arrive together or even close. Had to ask twice for dessert or coffee and eventually just asked for the check. Drink order was not taken and asked several times before one girl came over and took it and the other came back over and asked if we were ready to order. No communication. Drink order than was wrong. Food was delicious other than the mussel lentil dish. My husband got violently ill that night. There were good points. The food was very good and so were the cocktails when we got them. I think there needs to be better service. visited The Blind Pig on 20 May 2017

I was already several times at the blind's pig and this time it was unfortunately a bit disappointing. We wanted to celebrate the birthday of one friend. We had a very uncomfortable table that seemed to be squeezed in one corner. Nobody from us could move or get out. The food was good but the portions were way too small. Nobody from us was full after the meal and we had to go somewhere else afterwards. This is really disappointing as the prices are very high e.g. 15,50 EUR for a cocktail in a champagne glass. I know that Dublin is expensive, but everybody paid around 40 EUR and left the restaurant hungry. So this is too much in my opinion and I will definitely not return. visited The Blind Pig on 21 May 2017

Very disappointing. The waiter got my friend's main wrong and when the waitress came with the dish my friend informed her. The waitress then left the dish in front of my friend anyways and 'went to check'. She then came back and took the plate but did not check in with us to inform us how long my friend would be waiting for the right main. I had to eat my main alone and was finished before my friend's main did arrive. In the mean time my friend had ordered a diet coke...no offer of this being complimentary given the mess up. Instead when paying, the waiter made a lame joke about a 200 euro service charge as we had requested 'surprise me' on our booking application. We were already surprised by the poor service and lacklustre food. I ordered the chicken parma and it was really dry and unseasoned. My friend's gnocchi starter was very small in portion size but overpriced. Definitely way better standards and value for money in competing restaurants in Dublin. For continued custom this restaurant would need to up it's game. Would not return visited The Blind Pig on 11 May 2017

It was my first time going to the blind pig with my partner. Such a cool vibe and atmosphere the entrance into the restaurant was very cool!! We were not to impressed with the food though which was a big disappointment. I had the seared yellow fin tuna and it was a bit too raw in the Center for my liking. My partner had the Italian spaghetti and meatballs and found that the meat balls were very fatty. We loved our drinks and loved our starters. The one big issue I had was where we were seated I had hit my head on the candle holder on the wall and had to be extra carful throughout our meal not to do it again or to set my hair on fire. We had also asked for the dessert menus at the end of our meal and never received it and as a result we just decided to pay our bill and leave which is a putty because we wanted to spend more time there but I think had we been seated in the Center of the room we would of not been forgotten. I would recommend the blind pig to friends and family as a place to go for drinks but not for a meal. The over all vibe is amazing and beautiful. Just unfortunate where we were seated. visited The Blind Pig on 28 Apr 2017

The premises is very nice, staff are friendly and professional, and the cocktails were lovely. My criticism would be that it didn't have the "hidden" or speakeasy quality that I was hoping for. I had expected that I'd need to ring a bell/give a password to get in. Also, the fact that you must leave the secret door to go to the bathroom undermines it a bit. All in all, it was great and it's nice to have the opportunity to book a table somewhere even if you're just having drinks. But the "speakeasy" gimmick could probably be upped, as it is the USP after all. visited The Blind Pig on 15 Apr 2017

My wife and I bring our guests for cocktails on a regular basis (sometimes without reservations 😜) and the staff are always fabulous! Paul Lambert and Andre are exceptional at their craft and their interaction is light hearted and fun! Also want to thank them for creating the Bittersweet Symphony! I was there went it was born and hope it stays on the menu for years to come! Thanks Blind Pig! We love you! visited The Blind Pig on 11 Apr 2017

We really enjoyed the atmosphere of The Blind Pig. The cocktails were amazing. The food was okay, and the service was was shoddy at best, which is why I gave it three stars. I would definitely recommend if you're interested in just grabbing cocktails at the bar! visited The Blind Pig on 06 Apr 2017

I took a team for a team building celebration. I was looking for something special and I was not disappointed. The service from reservation and booking staff was excellent and they insured that everything was arranged for us. Paul's depth of knowledge of speakeasy history and cocktails was delivered with wit and charm. The cocktails were sublime and nimbles were very nom nom nom. Everyone had a relaxed enjoyable time. Will definitely be back even as a little treat for myself. visited The Blind Pig on 06 Apr 2017

It was unbelievable loud in the restaurant. there was a large party of ladies seated next to us, and they cackled durning our whole dinner to the point I couldn't even have a conversation with my dining companion because we couldn't hear each other. The food was bland, but decent. The man who met us at the door was very nice and friendly. visited The Blind Pig on 01 Apr 2017

The food was tasty although there wasn't enough of it. I ordered the duck leg & that's all I got bar a few tiny potatoes with the main. For €17 I expected a full side to come with the meal. Even a portion of chips would have sufficed. Both myself & my girlfriend were still hungry by the end of the meal despite having a starter & a main. We shouldn't have to go for a slice of pizza after spending €57 in a restaurant to fill ourselves up. My biggest grievance was the fact that I had to wait for 30 minutes to receive my Guinness after ordering it. We ordered food & drinks about ten minutes after arriving. My girlfriends wine came out about 15 minutes later. I asked where my Guinness was & the waitress said she would ask the barman but she never got back to us. Another ten minutes went by & we asked the waiter this time why I had not received my drink yet. He apologized & brought me my drink which he didn't charge us for which was appreciated but I didn't order another drink in case the same thing happened again. Overall we were both disappointed & we won't be heading back anytime soon. visited The Blind Pig on 01 Apr 2017

Enjoyed cocktails there. Thought the uniqueness has gone a little. It was too packed and not as exclusive as previously ie the secret back way entrance no longer in use. The door is sensored so was constantly open. Also had standard cocktail menus which takes away from the book. But disaapointed visited The Blind Pig on 25 Mar 2017

Well firstly we called to delay our table which was apparently fine, but when we arrived we didn't get a table, only a seat at the bar. The cocktail menu is also incredibly brief for a 'cocktail bar', only one page which is printed on a sheet and not presented in any thought out way. That aside, this place is having an identity crisis. It claims itself as a speakeasy, yet the decor includes open brickwork, exposed filament bulbs and wooden crates, all of which belong on the 'industrial design' bandwagon that's so common at the moment that even the new Starbucks are kitted out with hanging filament bulbs. The live music is a nice touch, but the piano is tucked away in a corner that's not visible from most of the bar so seems like an afterthought. Overall the idea for a secret speakeasy is very clearly stolen from the VCC who are streets ahead in terms of all the above. visited The Blind Pig on 24 Mar 2017

First time there, we were celebrating and we had a really nice evening. We had 3 courses, a bottle of wine and cocktails. The portions are small which was fine with me but my partner was disappointed. My food was good but my partner said his veal was salty. The staff were great and very friendly. We don't normally drink cocktails but we had two each and although they tasted great, the amount of alcohol in them isn't very high so they are very overpriced for what you get. Would I go again? We booked a table for 10 people and unfortunately our experience was quite disappointing. The cocktails we got were mostly too strong. Filling the glass with pure alcohol does not make a good cocktail. I ordered a mojito but couldn't get it as you ran out of mint. That should not happy to any cocktail bar, especially not on an early night (it was around 6.30pm). The alternative cocktail I was recommended and then ordered was - apologies - pure muck. My friend ordered a pint of Guinness which was stale and absolutely undrinkable, presumably it came from an old keg as no-one drinks Guinness in there. If you can't ensure the beer is fresh, don't put it on the menu. So we ended up leaving after less than 2 hours although we had booked the table for 3 hours. While I generally like the idea of a speakeasy bar in Dublin and the interior did look good, I would expect more from a place that is featured in an article of the best cocktail bars in the world. As it currently stands we will not return and cannot recommend The Blind Pig to anyone else. visited The Blind Pig on 17 Feb 2017

Drinks expensive. Music too loud in dining area but fine at the bar. Lots of people trying to read their menus using the light from their phones! Would I go back........I don't think so.
