BEGINNERS CONTEMPORARY MOVEMENT hosted by Jordan Kennedy.
These sessions varies on the diversity and capability of those who attend each week, allowing for a personalised experience for all who attend. The class is split into 3 distinct sections. Below is a general outline of what each session might look like, along with exercises/techniques that participants may want to familiarise themselves with before their first session.

In order to relax the body and mind in preparation for the classes, the first third of the session focuses on meditative grounding exercises on the floor yoga mats can be provided, or you may bring your own.
Jordan welcomes everyone to the session by inviting participants to lay flat on the ground and connect to the earth. He guides us through a full body scan, head to toe, eyes closed while you begin to visualise our past, present, future selves, and set individual intentions; spending time connecting to our breathing in child's pose. After this we may shift to cat cow position as we begin warm up and lengthen the spine with intuitive movement; inspiring moments of play/improvisation on the floor and shifting into contemporary dance techniques: rolling, crawling, sliding etc, exploring animalistic movements, giving into gravity & ground and other movement to encourage mindfulness and presence.

Working our way into standing up, the improvisation progresses into embodiment practises during the second part of the session. With our eyes closed the group may bounce and/or shake for the duration of a selected track, releasing any stuck energy, scanning the body and freeing the body and mind to welcome new movements.

The latter third of the class develops into a movement meditation practise. Layered with different textures, colours, feelings & various visualization tasks taking elements from GaGa technique to guide the group into free flow improvisation and encourage engagement and interation with each other. Copying, sharing, vibing, allowing simple movements to grow to create a dance floor.
Depending on time & level of the class, Jordan can also offer a short contemporary routine to teach & choreographic creation practice using explored movements from earlier in the class to create a short contemporary performance piece.

If the event is cancelled, please contact us for information on receiving a refund from the responsible party. If the event was moved or rescheduled, the venue or promoter may set refund limitations. It is your responsibility to ascertain the date and time of any rearranged event.
5. The venue reserves the right to refuse admission and may on occasion have to conduct security searches to ensure the safety of the patrons.
6. Every effort to admit latecomers will be made at a suitable break in the event, but admission cannot always be guaranteed.
7. We regret that tickets cannot be exchanged or refunded after purchase.
8. Tickets are sold subject to the venue or promoter's right to alter or vary the programme due to events or circumstances beyond its control without being obliged to refund monies or exchange tickets.
9. If this ticket is re-sold or transferred for profit or commercial gain by anyone other than the promoter, venue management, DesignMyNight or one of their authorised sub-agents, it will become voidable and the holder may be
refused entry to or ejected from the venue.
10. The venue may operate a No Smoking Policy.

12. The event listed on the purchased ticket is strictly for ticket holders who are over 18 years of age. Identification may be required.
