My husband and I, along with eight friends of ours, pre-booked tickets for this event- it is more than fair to say that it did not deliver on the majority of things advertised. The offer of free pizza did little to accommodate non-meat eaters; we arrived shortly after eight and there were a few slices of a cheese and tomato left, which we declined as we thought there would be more later, which there wasn't. When I queried this at the bar after being handed two pizzas, respectively, with chicken and pepperoni, I received nothing more than a unanimous "I don't know" from the three members of staff there. The "party classics" were not played by any of the DJs throughout the duration of the event, a number of who were evidently more concerned about playing songs (an abundance of West Coast rap and very similar-sounding popular songs confined to the early-noughties) that they wanted and messing around with their friends, rather than exercise any knowledge of how to play music spanning several decades and genres for a crowd, properly mix songs, or sort out the sound levels, so that the latter part of the evening was not dominated by loud, high-pitched feedback across the bar. My husband spoke to the manager of The Victoria regarding this point at the time, only to be fobbed-off with a dismissive "I'll pass it on" (to the manager of Island Bar, who booked the DJs). Some of the people in our group got bored and left early and, the venue did not get remotely busy til after 1am, which shows up the lack of interest that surrounded the event, really. I must also point out that calling something 'Prohibition-themed' displays a severe lack of understanding of the phrase, as alcohol was served in abundance across both premises and, the upstairs room of The Victoria was nearly empty and lacked atmosphere throughout. Unbelievably disappointed, will be pressing for a refund for our two tickets based upon the experience. Ciona visited Island Bar on 31 Dec 2016
