A short walk from Grosvenor Road, the Crown Liquor Saloon is a truly unique pub, set in a stunning grade A listed building.
Run by Nicholson's pubs and owned by the National Trust, this well-preserved Victorian gin palace was opened in 1885, and has been renovated several times to restore its original features. These include an altar-style red granite-topped bar, gas lamps on the red and gold, carved ceiling and a mosaic floor – grandeur unmistakably reminiscent of the Victorian period.
The bar has also retained the nine snugs that, while now used for comfort, were originally installed for privacy and feature the original gun metal plates used for striking matches – ornamental since the smoking ban of course.
Easily accessible from the nearby Great Victoria Street station, this traditional British pub was once one of the mightiest Victorian Gin Palaces in the city and you’ll still find many of the original features, not to mention a great choice of gins.
Nearby you’ll also find Belfast City Hall, the Grand Opera House, and Titanic Belfast.
Inside, you can choose from a range of traditional pub meals and take your pick from an impressive menu of cask ales and spirits – it’s a great spot for meeting friends, relaxing after exploring the city, or winding down at the end of the working week.
