Description
Housed inside a Grade A-listed building, the Belfast Distillery Company is the bar, restaurant and working whiskey production facility that's a must for all malt fans.
Taking over the vacant 'A' wing of the Crumlin Road Gaol, the venture has been an exciting addition to the city's tourism industry, incorporating a visitors centre where locals and sightseers can learn all about the history of whiskey-making in the city. Guests are also given the chance to sample from the brand's range at the in-house tasting room and adjoining eatery.
The project itself has a unique history having initially been the brainchild of lottery-winner turned entrepreneur Paul Lavery in the mid-00s. Since then, the plans have undergone stop-and-start progress before finally being given the go-ahead in 2021.
