If you’re after a beaut rooftop restaurant in Melbourne, The Fitz is the answer to your prayers. Something of an institution, the people of Fitzroy flock to this cool hangout – which is hard to miss thanks to its huge bronze sign – for brunches, dinners, cocktails and coffee.

Inside, the café is cute and cosy, with wooden furniture, potted plants hanging from the ceiling and specials of the day inscribed in chalk on the wall. But their leafy rooftop terrace is the real showstopper here. While only available to non-private events Friday - Sunday, the ever-popular lofty lookout is a top spot for a night on the town enjoying cocktails from above. The place also boasts street-side tables, ideal for sunny sipping.

Pop over for a bite to eat and you’ll tuck into delicious sandwiches, tapas plates, salads, comfort food or breakfast. Our favourites? The lamb bolognese pappardelle and the plant-based burger, made with a V2 patty, vegan cheese, avo and BBQ sauce.
