Death And Taxes

Description

Inspired by the basement bars of London and Paris, Death and Taxes is bringing some seriously slinky sips to Brisbane CBD. Your first job? Finding this sleek space.

Tucked away down the city’s oldest laneway, the haunt is surrounded by street art and graffiti, with lion head knockers and dark oak doors signalling the entrance. Inside, speakeasy vibes abound, from the 100-year-old floorboards to the black wall lined with more than 1,000 different spirits (that bartenders reach by clambering up wooden ladders).

Whether it’s a date night or a cool catch-up, nab yourself a space in one of the circular green booths before ordering one of the inventive libations. Drinks are an unusual mix, with everything from French pastis to peaty Scottish whisky cocktails, such as the Sisyphus, made up of Jognnie Walker Black Scotch, Pampero Anejo Rum, yellow Chartreuse, rockmelon and citrus.
