For our next wine dinner, we will host for the first time in the awesome setting of Petersham Nurseries Shop set with  elegant surroundings of beautiful furniture, glassware and flowers. The focus will be on the extraordinary wines produced at Tenuta di Fessina, Sicily.

In 2007, Silvia Maestrelli founded Tenuta di Fessina in the village of Rovittello on the northeastern side of Mt. Etna. The vineyards are located on different sides of the mountain in order to achieve the best expressions of the indigenous varietals according to soil and climate conditions.

There are still old vineyards here varying in age between 70 and 110 years old. The vines are planted at a high density but produce few clusters. These factors give the wines their amazing richness, complexity of aroma, and elegant structure. The marked minerality bestowed by the volcanic soils is striking. In collaboration with winemaker Federico Curtaz, Maestrelli has created, in just 10 years, one of the most successful and recognizable cellars in the Etna area and has become a perfect ambassador of new Sicilian viticulture.

As Silvia proudly admits:

"Tenuta di Fessina is my latest venture, stemming from the love of this land featuring extraordinary cultural, historical, and environmental resources. Exuberant nature, layers upon layers of different civilizations, a deeply-rooted and complex cultural heritage. Sicily is the land of earth, sky, water, and fire. And the land of fimmine, women. Even A Muntagna, the mountain, has a female spirit. I look up to Mount Etna like a daughter would look up to a mother.”

The dinner will focus on Tenuta di Fessina's top wines:  A Puddara, made with Carricante, and Il Musmeci, made with Nerello Mascalese, the most prestigious grape varieties of Mt Etna. The wines will be paired with a carefully curated five course menu devised by Head Chef Joseph Fox.

    The staff, venue, and overall experience was lovely. The event was marketed as a few hours long (I believe 9:30am-12:30pm) but we ended quite early. With this, I was expecting a bit more education or guidance on flowers than what was received. Overall, it was a nice morning but I was expecting just a bit more with the timing and cost.

    Really exceeded expectations! What a lovely night out, the 'chefs table' feeling and being part of a working kitchen was great, and the small group made it intimate and fun. The two chefs running our class were lovely, the food at the end was delicious, and the snacks & prosecco at the start was a nice touch. Hadn't expected a goodie bag either - it was so generous, the whole evening was such good value for money and I really recommend it.
