INternational women's day 2020 with the south london jazz orchestra
Based in Brixton, the SLJO brings you an afternoon of swing, jazz and Latin charts harking back to the golden era of the Big Band, as part of their Mini-SLJO series. In recognition of International Women's Day, today's band will feature a number of SLJO's finest female players alongside the incredible Georgie Fellows, singing with us again after a number of barnstorming appearances at the club.
The band regularly performs right across the capital, at pubs, jazz clubs, bandstands and local events. They count the Hideaway, Ivy House in Nunhead, Bulls Head at Barnes, the Ealing Jazz Festival, and Dulwich, Sydenham and Wandsworth Arts Festivals amongst previous top gigs. The band travels extensively, having performed at the Stockholm, Montreux and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals, and will travel to Guernsey and Jersey this summer.
The set will feature favourites from some of the greatest Big Band leaders and vocalists of all time – Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee, Dinah Washington, Count Basie and Glenn Miller, alongside a few surprises specially prepared just for this gig.
