Award-winning guitarist brings a night of "guitarmaggedon"!

Two-time Jazz FM Awards nominee & BBC New Generation Artist Rob Luft brings his trio to Toulouse Lautrec for an intimate night of contemporary jazz, playing songs from his acclaimed debut album "Riser" in a pared-down trio setting.

Rob Luft is an award-winning 25-year-old jazz guitarist from London whose virtuosity has been compared to that of six-string legends John McLaughlin, Al Di Meola & Paco De Lucia.

Praised by The Times for performances with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra in 2015, who said he was destined ‘to achieve great things in the future’, Rob was subsequently the recipient of the 2016 Kenny Wheeler Music Prize from The Royal Academy of Music, and he also received the 2nd Prize in The 2016 Montreux Jazz Guitar Competition at the Montreux Jazz Festival.

This particular trio plays Luft's original compositions, many of which were recorded on his debut album, Riser, which was released on Edition Records in 2017 to widespread critical acclaim from the jazz media (4.5-star review in Downbeat Magazine, 4 stars in The Guardian and 4 stars in The Irish Times).

The project brings together English, Scottish & Welsh musicians each drawing upon their own musical traditions, adding a Celtic folk influence to the project. Luft's own playing & writing has also been heavily influenced by West African guitarists such as Ali Farka Toure, Lionel Loueke & Mboka Liya. John Fordham wrote in The Guardian of Luft's album that it was a “very sophisticated debut, but given Luft’s old-soul achievements since his early teens, we should have heard it coming”.

"Guitar virtuoso makes enticingly vivacious debut"
The Guardian

"So young and so talented!"
Jamie Cullum, BBC Radio 2

"...a singular talent, a fluent improviser and a composer of catchy, earthy, infectiously upbeat tunes. There are echoes of west African high-life, English folk, indie rock and various strands of contemporary jazz, but Luft’s sound is joyously original, robust and in-your-face..."
The Irish Times

"With Riser, Luft has produced a debut album of remarkable originality, strong compositions and he’s assisted by a formidable quartet of musicians whose natural sensibilities and talents only serve to enhance the project."
