A series of evenings featuring drinks inspired by the period gardens: each week sees a residency from one of London's most creative bartenders, serving drinks inspired by and even using ingredients from, the Geffrye Museum's period gardens.

Relax on a deck chair in the serene urban oasis of the gardens, or try your hand at some suitably suave garden games whilst sipping on inspired creations from:

16 & 17 Gimlet Bar with guest chef, Lucas Hollweg

Harry from Gimlet Bar; "On a trip to the Geffrye Museum's gardens in May, when they were brimming with tender herbs and flowers, we took an armful of cuttings back to our kitchen and began infusing and fermenting. Essences made from the garden cuttings will be mixed with our summer fruit and flower wines, spiced cordials and the best spirits to create deliciously playful cocktails; served, of course, alongside our world famous Gimlets."

And for one weekend only we welcome Lucas Hollweg to the kitchen. Food writer, greedy man and author of Good Things to Eat. Winner of Guild of Food Writers Cookery Journalist of the Year 2012.

Please note,  Gimlet bar are only able to accept cash payments so please come prepared.

Nice chilled out gardens for summertime drinks and lazing before heading out to Shoreditch to carry on the night. We went when Sweetdram were running the bar and the cocktails were so so good.

Had such a lovely evening drinking cocktails after work, sitting on a deckchair in the most fabulous botanical gardens. So central and so brilliant for a summer evening in the city.

Really serene, pleasant and beautiful surroundings in the middle of the city. Very different from a normal bar environment on a Friday night, a great change. Friend and I were really relaxed and pleased. Only issue was the wait for drinks, was really long but they were great cocktails. Good food though. Abiola visited Geffrye Museum on 10 Aug 2016

The garden is wonderful and the environment relaxed. However, the wait for cocktails was far too long, and after 15 minutes queuing I gave up and walked around the gardens. This was a lovely idea but a missed opportunity. Neil visited Geffrye Museum on 12 Aug 2016

A lovely tranquil evening spent sitting in the peaceful gardens of the Geffrye Museum, sipping on cocktails. Would recommend as a nice contrast to the normal frenetic friday night out. Only gripe was the length of the queue at the bar earlier in the evening. Jessica visited Geffrye Museum on 11 Aug 2016

Lovely venue, would definitely go back to The Geffrye Museum... but not when Background Bars are in residence. There were only three different cocktails available (two were Gin based) all priced at £8 and none of which were particularly special. Both of the Gin based cocktails had a handful of rosemary jammed into the glass. I suppose that represents the "cocktail list inspired by fresh English botanicals" part of the sales pitch, but it would be nice if they took some inspiration from some of the other herbs available in the garden too! If you are planning a visit I can wholeheartedly recommend the venue, it is a lovely tranquil space and beautifully tended. I would suggest taking a blanket or something to sit on as they ran out of deckchairs very quickly. Neill visited Geffrye Museum on 04 Aug 2016

Gorgeous venue, delicious drinks, helped out by a beautiful evening. I enjoyed my elderflower cocktail. We will visit again in a few weeks for another guest bartender. Recommended. Five stars! Alison visited Geffrye Museum on 05 Aug 2016

We went on the saturday and it was a lovely chilled space in the heart of Hoxton. The garden was super lush and was a wonderful space to meet and catch up with a friend. There were blacnkets and deck chairs and a few outdoor games. However like other reviews; one of the four cocktails wasn't available. The drinks were super pricey at £8 each, after 2 I felt a bit short changed. They were nice but nothing special as the NG G&T tasted just like a normal pub G and T. Id go back but when another bar was hosting! cocoe visited Geffrye Museum on 03 Aug 2016

We visited on the evening of Friday 5th August and were very disappointed with the bar. One of the four cocktails wasn't available at all that night, but nobody bothered to change the menu, so only found out once we came to order. Of the three left, two of them were gin-based, so not good if you don't like gin. The cocktail we went for, a special Pimms, was advertised as inlcuding homemade lemonade but the barman added it from a bottle of Shweppes! When I asked if it was homemade he said no and, even though I pointed out it said homemade on the menu, he had no explanation - and no sign of homemade lemonade.! Pricey drinks made from cheap ingredients - won't be going to a Background bar again - even the one on the John Lewis roof terrace! Such as shame as we love the Geffrye garden. Nice relaxed venue - expensive drinks and not really worth the entry fee - no food as advertised! Overall would have preferred to spend the price in an outdoor bar elsewhere. Jo-ai visited Geffrye Museum on 05 Aug 2016

Really lovely setting, great cocktails and a chilled out vibe - blankets and deck chairs on the grass with games as well. The garden was busy but you felt that you had your own private space if you wanted it. Lovely for a summer evening. mcplatt visited Geffrye Museum on 04 Aug 2016
