Killing Kittens and Anna Noctuelle present a 3-part workshop series of Shibari - The Art of Japanese Rope Bondage.

It is recommended to attend all 3 workshops in order, as there is a lot to learn and they compliment each other nicely, however you are still welcome to attend 1 or 2.

Please come with a partner you trust, enjoy being intimate and honest with.

Workshop I – Discover

Shibari, the art of Japanese rope bondage, is a multi-faceted form of sensual play as well as an art form that has gained a lot of attention in the Western culture in recent years. In this first of a three-part workshop, you will discover the art of Japanese rope bondage by learning about its history and roots, it’s philosophical underpinnings and by engaging in exercises that will give you an understanding of how to connect with your partner in ropes, how to handle rope and your partner’s body and how to create inspiring and sensual rope scenes. You will learn the fundamental building blocks that will allow you to create structured patterns as well as to tie freely.

This class is open to all levels and complete beginners. For people who did the workshop “Shibari and Sex”: this is an excellent opportunity to explore further, discover new aspects, and to deepen your knowledge and practice.

What to bring: min. 1-2 lengths of Shibari rope (6mm Jute or Hemp rope). Shibari rope is available from various sources. One London source is: https://shibaristore.com

What to wear: Usually people wear comfortable clothing like yoga or dance attire that allows you to move freely. Avoid loose fitting or movement restricting clothes and underwired bras.

Workshop II – Skill

In this second installment of the three-part workshop you will learn the most quintessential and iconic tie in Shibari, the Takate Kote (or TK). Everything starts and ends with the TK. We’ll introduce you to the principles and basic pattern of the two-rope Takate Kote but also show you how important it is to find the right intention, mindset and attitude. You will learn about tension, rope flow and versatility of this tie but also about communication, safety and anatomy.

Prerequisites: We’re happy for you to join, even if you haven’t attended the first workshop in this series if you are confident in tying a single column tie.

Workshop III – Enjoy

In this last instalment of the three-part workshop on Shibari we’ll cater to the senses. We’ve learned about the history and foundations, we’ve twisted our fingers and minds with technique, now it’s time to actually enjoy! We learn how to create  a rope-scene from beginning to end, how important it is to allow time to observe. We’ll show you how to safely incorporate candles, neck rope, hair ties and blindfolds into your play and we’ll touch on aftercare. You will have space play and try toys and accessories that you are curious about and to create a scene with your partner.

Prerequisites: As this workshop builds on the previous workshops you must be familiar with a single column tie and be able to tie a 2TK.

What to bring: min. 3-4 lengths of Shibari rope (8m or 6mm Jute or Hemp rope), candles, blindfolds, chopsticks, feathers, smelling salts, anything you like that tickles the senses

Anna Noctuelle discovered Shibari - the Art of Japanese Rope Bondage - over a decade ago and has worked with this art form as a model, performer and teacher. She has collaborated with riggers and artists from all over the world for workshops, photo shoots and performances.

With her background in classical ballet and as a yoga practitioner, Anna has exceptional body awareness skills in ropes and suspension. This and her interest in Buddhism and spiritual development influence her aesthetic and philosophical approach to Shibari.
