Creatures!

Summer is back, with it comes the Rumpus Summer Bash - we leave the Metalworks and sail upon the Mighty Thames with a boat party, and then cross the river for a more intimate Rumpus, chock full of bass and beats and bounce.

Our ship shall be captained by  the man Fatboy Slim described as 'the thinking man's Grandmaster Flash' - the inimitable JFB and crewed by those salty sailors, Happy Slap Boutique.

On the decks on the other deck are our long time friends  Hotcakes featuring Mafia Kiss, Hybrid Theory, Jurassik, Hypho, Lucent and The Scritch.

The plundering and pillaging will continue late into the night at the afterparty, with live bands King Cassady and The Scribes with JFB playing another finger-flashing set and DJ Jon Bongly to get the party started.

Next door, in the Hotcakes room, DJs to delight and divert: Hybrid Theory, Lucent, Leda Stray, Bob B-Wrong, and Jurassik.

Rumpus Deck

JFB - famously described by Fatboy Slim as 'the thinking man's Grandmaster Flash'. Crowned UK DMC Champion three times, his dextrous digits caress the turntables at a speed that, quite frankly, sets us fantasising.

Mr Nice - the nicest DJ on the scene, playing you into happy times.

Happy Slaps Boutique’s Creatures moving amongst you to astonish and amaze.

Penny Metal – gyrate to the mischievously musical anarchic and eclectic beats.

The Scritch - journey through a classic soundset of breakbeats, deep, deep vibes and low end rumble.

Hotcakes Deck

Mafia Kiss - swoon to the unique bass & beats “kiss” planted on the hottest breaks.

Hybrid Theory - bounce with this Brummy duo blazing the UK bass scene in serious style.

Jurassik - revel in roughneck riddims with this badman student of the dancehall.

Hypho - up the ante with brazen grime stylings, lush garage interludes, dubbed out bass riddims and fearsome snatches of ragga energy.

We didn't attend the boat party so no comment there. Unfortunately we had a crappy time at the venue: - it took ages to find the venue - there was nothing outside (signs or people) to let me know it was Rumpus. - The entrance policy was more akin to a drum & bass rave in Croydon than the queue for Rumpus. - the venue was small and oppressive - it was hot and difficult to see - the only seating space was the "take an exam" space - the "take an exam" activity was lovely and fun. We really enjoyed that! - Jon Bongly was great but the DJ in the other room was playing music that we found too aggressive for Rumpus - the smoking area was the only place to get away from the venue, consequently it was absolutely packed. Due to the above factors we left at around midnight. Top marks to the exam people though. They were silly and lovely and provided a good distraction from the less positive aspects of the party. I don't think that venue suits Rumpus at all. Suggestions if you have to have it there in future: - put a crew member out on the street to meet and greet (and prepare people to run the queue gauntlet) - don't have two rooms of loud dance music - lighten things up a little inside - see if the venue could be better ventilated (AC?) - see if the smoking area could be made any bigger Hope this helps! visited The Dutch Master, Tower Pier & Protocol London, Vauxhall. on 08 Jul 2017

the venue turned the music off 30mins early which was a real let down and they hadn't made much of an effort with making it 'special' i.e. decorating the event visited The Dutch Master, Tower Pier & Protocol London, Vauxhall. on 08 Jul 2017

The boat party was fun to begin with but after the first couple of hours when the novelty of being on a boat wore off, a bit of a let down. It was literally just a party on a boat. Not even decorations or anything special to do with what Rumpus is about. It could have been organised by anyone and the only "Rumpus spirit" to be seen came from the guests. Also, no food on board for a 6 hour trip. Everyone was starving and not even bar snacks! There was also no indication of this beforehand so we couldn't prepare by bringing food or making sure to have a good meal before the party. Has potential to be good but really not there yet. visited The Dutch Master, Tower Pier & Protocol London, Vauxhall. on 08 Jul 2017

Boat party was great, the weather was perfect for it. The after party was terrible. Small location with no ventilation on a warm night and completely packed. Unbearable to stay inside. visited The Dutch Master, Tower Pier & Protocol London, Vauxhall. on 08 Jul 2017

I've been to many runpus parties before it's a welcoming party with great people. The venue this time was the worst. The bouncers on the door would not let us in as we didn't have physical copies of our ID with us. We all had scanned copies of id on us and that was not good enough. This was the case with a lot of the rumpus members there not being able to get in without ID. There were groups of people outside not able to get in. The emembers in my party are all in their late 30's we all look of age. Enforcing this at the door when we all could prove our age with the scan on our phone was not good enough for this bouncer. It was a waste of my money and time. Paul visited The Dutch Master, Tower Pier & Protocol London, Vauxhall. on 08 Jul 2017

Very small and very hot venue. Also only until 4am. I love the usual Rumpus but summer bash is just ok. visited The Dutch Master, Tower Pier & Protocol London, Vauxhall. on 08 Jul 2017

Club was rubbish, I wouldn't use that venue again. The way they ejected us at 3:30 by just switching off the music was not cool. Music was rather disjointed in general, although the electroswing was good fun. The 'exam' didn't quite come off. Really, really hot. Back to metalworks! visited The Dutch Master, Tower Pier & Protocol London, Vauxhall. on 08 Jul 2017

The party was a bit underwhelming this time, with poor audio system quality on the boat and unorganised entry to the afterparty (unclear directions to the venue, the venue turned away anyone without IDs). Pavel visited The Dutch Master, Tower Pier & Protocol London, Vauxhall. on 08 Jul 2017

Always great folks, great performances, and great fun. With the boat party, it's just going to be unbelievable! Put your highest heels and the most sparkling glitter! And don't forget sunscreen ;)
