The Coal Rooms

Description

The Coal Rooms is a relaxed bar, restaurant and café in Peckham.

Housed in the Grade II-listed, former ticket office of the Peckham Rye train station, the venue offers a plethora of meat and fish dishes cooked on their bespoke charcoal grill and oven. It is split between a café that transforms into a bar at night, the main restaurant, with an open-kitchen, and a private dining room, that acts as a butchery and bakery in the day.

The on-site butchery allows the Coal Rooms to sell a variety of meats, including a few unusual cuts, that are served throughout the day. During breakfast, the café serves dishes like coffee-cured bacon sandwich, with a choice of three cuts of bacon, and at lunch the menu focuses mainly on flatbreads cooked in the coal oven. At night, the robata grill and coal oven really get a workout, serving up dishes like mangalitsa cowboy steaks and dry-aged duck breast, served with a variety of imaginative sauces such as crab apple jelly. They also serve up a series of small plates.
