In knead of a doughy fix? Hackney-based patisserie heavyweight Jolene is rising to the occasion with the opening of a new bakery around the Hornsey area.

Taking the site of a former store between Holloway and Finsbury Park, Big Jo Bakery will have a shop and 60-cover restaurant, handy for both on-the-go bites and sit-down meals. Whilst we haven’t seen a menu yet, judging from Jolene’s offerings and the new spot’s planned kitchen additions - we’re talking pizza and pastry ovens - it looks as if a regularly changing range of savoury plates, breads and pastries will all be up for grabs.

The bread haven, fondly known by its owners as ‘Big Jo’, has a strong sustainable ethos. Championing regenerative farming, the kitchen will grow their own signature ancient mixed wheat populations which will then be milled into flour by in-house machines and grain silos. And it doesn't stop there. A small fermentation lab will even be churning out a selection of homemade drinks, making for an eco-friendly and kombucha-tastic sip.
