Description

The Betjeman Arms - the last pub before Paris! Housed in an impressive Grade 1 listed building right next to the stunning St Pancras Hotel, this pub is truly unique.

Not only is there a wonderful indoor terrace and bar situated under the great arching roof of the station but also a large outdoor terrace which is a hive of activity during the summer months. The Head Chef cooks up a delicious mix of traditional British favourites and new, contemporary dishes all served up with the freshest ingredients. Wash it all down with a glass of something smooth from the wine list or grab a pint o' ale, cider and beer.

A pub with many faces, The Betjeman Arms comes complete with The Boardroom, The Grand Terrace, The Pantry and The Dining Room all available as events spaces offering fantastic value and superb quality. The variety of high-ceilinged drinking and dining spots combine to offer a bright, airy pub with a rather relaxed sense of grandeur. The stylish Boardroom is fully decked out with contemporary conference facilities and is perfect for professional meetings, sports screenings, canape parties and long lunches. Welcoming the gastronomic gathering, or drinking party, The Betjeman Arms is a pub of all trades.

Excellent...as we couldn't get the bar area, the manager Peter/Robin gave us the Green Room, which was brilliant as the get together was a meeting, and gave us the room to talk. Wonderful food, excellent service...continually serviced. Wow! visited The Betjeman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 08 Jun 2017

My booking was not on the sheet at the restaurant so thankfully it was not too busy. Mains was lovely as usual, tasty and hot but really disappointed with the cheeseboard, Three Miniscule pieces of cheese, stale biscuits, approximately seven grapes for £9.00! visited The Betjeman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 07 Jun 2017

Asparagus starter absolutely delicious. Plump and tender asparagus, perfectly cooked, and the crispy poached egg was brilliant. How do you do that? My dieting friend had the soup, but thought it was particularly fresh tasting. We both had the duck, with extra broccoli. Pinkly tender, could cut it with a spoon, almost... ditto the broccoli with not too much chili flavoured dressing, and just enough firmness. I had half the posset - simply to curb my greed. Staff were patient, helpful, pleasant. Our table was tucked away and private - despite the next table being so close, the acoustics are such that they didn't disturb us - no echoing vaults. Lovely evening. The g and t cost a bomb, but there you go, cant have everything. visited The Betjeman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 02 Jun 2017

Ambience was excellent as was the waitress. We all chose the salad from the specials board. It was very disappointing, mainly assorted leaves, difficult to find the cheese as very small amount. My brother had 1 sliver of cheese !! The dish of mainly leaves was drowned in Balsamic vinegar. First poor meal at this venue. visited The Betjeman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 02 Jun 2017

Great space on the Grand Terrace for a large crowd to get together, good service from the staff. The platters were a bit greasy and wouldn't recommend them. No pints available initially, but problem sorted after about 30mins. visited The Betjeman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 23 May 2017

Good service but not so good food. Burnt pie which they'd tried to hide with gravy. Belly pork was nice but if we hadn't ordered a side this wouldn't have been enough - very small portion and a tiny bit of Apple sauce. visited The Betjeman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 27 May 2017

Service was good but some of the food was rather disappointing. The haggis pakoras were extremely greasy as was the batter on the cod fillet, which was also overdone. Wine and staff service was good and glad to be seated in the Pantry as we requested as it is a favourite place to eat. Food was ordered at 2120 before kitchen close but it was not up to the same standard as the last time we came (vegetable trim with meat/fish seemed rushed). Otherwise no problem and thank you, we will be back. visited The Betjeman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 19 May 2017

I'd say it was average, because you gave us what we always get - good service and good food, but your average is higher than anywhere else round there. There was a mix-up with our booking for 8 people, but fortunately the staff acted quickly and managed to get us all seated, which we really appreciated. Sometimes they seemed a bit preoccupied with tidying or setting up tables and didn't check on us when we wanted to order or pay the bill. But this was solved with a quick wave. Everyone was very pleasant and the food was good, as always. visited The Betjeman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 10 May 2017

Food and service was great. Toilets were a disgrace. Superb customer service and a delicious full English breakfast, perfect for what we wanted before heading the Wembley for the game. Also took advantage of the welcome offer of a free drink, and was pleasantly surprised when I could choose any lager, rather than being restricted to the cheapest (which appears to be the norm with free drink offers). As usual, staff delightful and service efficient. It's always a great place to meet for a relaxed time with friends. On the whole , I was a bit underwhelmed with it. Service a little on the slow side, had to ask to order food. Waiter was very friendly tho. Asked if they did cocktails or mocktails & the waitress gave me a firm no. Just wine , beer & spirits., When food turned up, daughter liked her cheeseburger. Chips cold . I ordered squid, but reality was calamari. Sweet potato wedges cold & seemed defrosted & lukewarm not cooked. Get the feeling that the food not really fresh. Perhaps heated up. Expensive for what it is. Pluses are dining room & bar beautiful , nice surroundings . Clean, but fresh foods. Maybe a teatime menu. visited The Betjeman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 04 Apr 2017

I came on 2nd April with a group of 12 people for Sunday Roast beef. The Roast was well portioned (much better than our last visit) and the meat was tasty. Desserts (sticky toffee pudding / rhubarb and apple crumble) were good too. Our waitress was called Dimi (might be the wrong spelling... sorry) and she did a fantastic job all afternoon. She was very smily, personable and has been patient with us when it came to taking the drinks order. She truly contributed in the good experience we had and she is a real asset to your company... I'm afraid we can't say the same about the tall blonde lady that was helping Dimi to serve the food and clear the tables. She looked grumpy and miserable and It seemed like she didn't want to be here. We will be back. visited The Betjeman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 02 Apr 2017

Let down sadly by Management. Booked in advance the Green Room for a party of 12 for lunch. When I went on line and booked I clicked 'Private Dining' and entered my details . The evening before our visit I sent an email to confirm our attendance the following day. On the day in question 12 of us arrived to be told the private room was in use all day for a meeting. We went elsewhere and spent in the region of £600 - your loss through mismanagement . visited The Betjeman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 02 Feb 2017

I regularly dine here so I want to make it clear that this review does not reflect the majority of occasions. Ordinarily it is an excellent and convenient location to stop for a meal. This time however the steak I ordered was not remotely cooked as ordered. I asked for medium rare and no part of the steak showed any sign of pinkness let alone red and juice. Being generous it was medium to well done but more well done than medium. They did offer to take it away and start again but as my wife had already started her different meal and we were on a limited time availability as we still had to get across London for a performance at the Royal Albert Hall I declined. My point being that no chef could possibly have considered my steak medium let alone medium to rare as ordered. So very disappointed and consequently left no tip. We will however return as this has been the only occasion out of many that has disappointed. But it must be better next time. visited The Betjeman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 02 Feb 2017

The atmosphere and food were very good although they turned up with the wrong order (we ordered venison pie and they came back with a venison burger). We felt that one of the restaurant staff was a little inexperienced and did not seem as professional as his colleagues, for example, with the first bottle of wine he did not ask if we wanted to try it, whereas a different waitress brought the second bottle and asked who would like to taste it. Small things like that.. Also, when we ordered coffee at the end of the meal they said the machine had been switched off already so we ordered some drinks. One of us ordered gin (we still had a half bottle of tonic), and the gin came without any ice or lemon/lime. Another waiter saw this, grabbed the glass and came back with it with the ice and lemon. As I said, everything was great otherwise and we put it down to inexperience. visited The Betjeman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 27 Jan 2017

Three people for a business lunch - One English, One Italian and one from Sweden. Good overall on a very cold day in London. Regards the pie - a lot of crust and not enough gravy - please rectify. I have to admit I was a little concerned in the beginning as having been told by a member of the bar staff where our booked table was we sat ourselves down without being accompanied. It was very quiet, though there was a table occupied with people drinking but no sign of staff. After some time I went in search and requested menus and service which arrived fairly quickly. Afterwards all went well, the food as always was delicious and the service picked up so overall four out of five and look forward to returning. visited The Betjeman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 18 Dec 2016

The pub was awash with people and the staff were working at breakneck speed and the queue to get to the bar resembled a crushed theatre interval. However, the service was received from Manager was personal, friendly and helpful over and above duty requirements. It made a potentially intimidating situation friendly and personable. 4/5 is more a reference to some of the food. The venison pie was a little flavourless and diminished by the pie. but a minor complaint. Well done!! visited The Betjeman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 15 Dec 2016

Pre-booking was exceptional (Jodie was wonderful). The night itself simply could not have been run any better. A member of our party had requested the chestnuts be left out of her main course and this happened - no fuss, it just happened. By putting out place names with pre-orders written on them you have taken away that awkwardness of guests not remembering what they ordered - a gem of an idea. The food was excellent - I don't recall such consistent compliments in a group of this size - nobody seemed to have any gripes, quite the opposite. The waiting staff were perfect. If I had to find a suggestion for minor improvement it would be to provide more than one bowl of potatos and one bowl of vegetables, as to get these round 10 people is a little onerous and nobody knows how much to take. Other than that, really nit-picky, thing I cannot praise you highly enough. I will recommend you and will be back. visited The Betjeman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 13 Dec 2016

We booked Stonegate IT's Christmas party here. The food and service were both fantastic and the location was really handy for us all coming into London from different areas. Despite being located within a major train station, you'd never know that. Once you're inside, the venue is stylish, ambient and has a network of intimate, lively rooms. Interesting menu, great location let down as usual by service that is casual to the point of sloppiness. This is our fourth vist and each time there is the same problem - no real focus on the customer, no awareness on what might be needed etc. Not good enough in this very competitive location and a real discouragement to return again despite the good points. Needs some hands on management urgently. visited The Betjeman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 06 Dec 2016

I've eaten in the Betjeman before and been very pleased, so Friday night was a disappointment. I got the feeling that there may have been a shortage of staff. In a nutshell - the steak I had was significantly overpriced and I won't be choosing that again, the wrong main course was brought for my guest (embarrassing on a first date) and there was a loooong wait before the right one emerged. It wasn't a disaster but did not go well. We were offered a discount on the bill, which was welcome. visited The Betjeman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 01 Dec 2016
