Description

The Betjeman Arms - the last pub before Paris! Housed in an impressive Grade 1 listed building right next to the stunning St Pancras Hotel, this pub is truly unique.

Not only is there a wonderful indoor terrace and bar situated under the great arching roof of the station but also a large outdoor terrace which is a hive of activity during the summer months. The Head Chef cooks up a delicious mix of traditional British favourites and new, contemporary dishes all served up with the freshest ingredients. Wash it all down with a glass of something smooth from the wine list or grab a pint o' ale, cider and beer.

A pub with many faces, The Betjeman Arms comes complete with The Boardroom, The Grand Terrace, The Pantry and The Dining Room all available as events spaces offering fantastic value and superb quality. The variety of high-ceilinged drinking and dining spots combine to offer a bright, airy pub with a rather relaxed sense of grandeur. The stylish Boardroom is fully decked out with contemporary conference facilities and is perfect for professional meetings, sports screenings, canape parties and long lunches. Welcoming the gastronomic gathering, or drinking party, The Betjeman Arms is a pub of all trades.

Party of 4 each chose a different dish from the varied menu - all equally good. Especially good range of wines on offer, the Chablis was very good. Service was excellent, the attention of the waiting staff was very good and the ambience for dining with conversation very good. I usually really love coming to the Betjleman..However, my experince last Saturday was not great..The service was extremely slow..we waited more than half an hour to be offered a drink. And when it came to desert, we were told the kitchen was closed. We did have desert after saying that it wasnt on, but then felt rushed. Not sure that i would come back on a saturday again visited The Betjeman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 04 Feb 2017

Let down sadly by Management. Booked in advance the Green Room for a party of 12 for lunch. When I went on line and booked I clicked 'Private Dining' and entered my details . The evening before our visit I sent an email to confirm our attendance the following day. On the day in question 12 of us arrived to be told the private room was in use all day for a meeting. We went elsewhere and spent in the region of £600 - your loss through mismanagement . visited The Betjeman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 02 Feb 2017

I regularly dine here so I want to make it clear that this review does not reflect the majority of occasions. Ordinarily it is an excellent and convenient location to stop for a meal. This time however the steak I ordered was not remotely cooked as ordered. I asked for medium rare and no part of the steak showed any sign of pinkness let alone red and juice. Being generous it was medium to well done but more well done than medium. They did offer to take it away and start again but as my wife had already started her different meal and we were on a limited time availability as we still had to get across London for a performance at the Royal Albert Hall I declined. My point being that no chef could possibly have considered my steak medium let alone medium to rare as ordered. So very disappointed and consequently left no tip. We will however return as this has been the only occasion out of many that has disappointed. But it must be better next time. visited The Betjeman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 02 Feb 2017

The atmosphere and food were very good although they turned up with the wrong order (we ordered venison pie and they came back with a venison burger). We felt that one of the restaurant staff was a little inexperienced and did not seem as professional as his colleagues, for example, with the first bottle of wine he did not ask if we wanted to try it, whereas a different waitress brought the second bottle and asked who would like to taste it. Small things like that.. Also, when we ordered coffee at the end of the meal they said the machine had been switched off already so we ordered some drinks. One of us ordered gin (we still had a half bottle of tonic), and the gin came without any ice or lemon/lime. Another waiter saw this, grabbed the glass and came back with it with the ice and lemon. As I said, everything was great otherwise and we put it down to inexperience. visited The Betjeman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 27 Jan 2017

I have to admit I was a little concerned in the beginning as having been told by a member of the bar staff where our booked table was we sat ourselves down without being accompanied. It was very quiet, though there was a table occupied with people drinking but no sign of staff. After some time I went in search and requested menus and service which arrived fairly quickly. Afterwards all went well, the food as always was delicious and the service picked up so overall four out of five and look forward to returning. visited The Betjeman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 18 Dec 2016

The pub was awash with people and the staff were working at breakneck speed and the queue to get to the bar resembled a crushed theatre interval. However, the service was received from Manager was personal, friendly and helpful over and above duty requirements. It made a potentially intimidating situation friendly and personable. 4/5 is more a reference to some of the food. The venison pie was a little flavourless and diminished by the pie. but a minor complaint. Well done!! visited The Betjeman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 15 Dec 2016

Pre-booking was exceptional (Jodie was wonderful). The night itself simply could not have been run any better. A member of our party had requested the chestnuts be left out of her main course and this happened - no fuss, it just happened. By putting out place names with pre-orders written on them you have taken away that awkwardness of guests not remembering what they ordered - a gem of an idea. The food was excellent - I don't recall such consistent compliments in a group of this size - nobody seemed to have any gripes, quite the opposite. The waiting staff were perfect. If I had to find a suggestion for minor improvement it would be to provide more than one bowl of potatos and one bowl of vegetables, as to get these round 10 people is a little onerous and nobody knows how much to take. Other than that, really nit-picky, thing I cannot praise you highly enough. I will recommend you and will be back. visited The Betjeman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 13 Dec 2016

We booked Stonegate IT's Christmas party here. The food and service were both fantastic and the location was really handy for us all coming into London from different areas. Interesting menu, great location let down as usual by service that is casual to the point of sloppiness. This is our fourth vist and each time there is the same problem - no real focus on the customer, no awareness on what might be needed etc. Not good enough in this very competitive location and a real discouragement to return again despite the good points. I've eaten in the Betjeman before and been very pleased, so Friday night was a disappointment. I got the feeling that there may have been a shortage of staff. In a nutshell - the steak I had was significantly overpriced and I won't be choosing that again, the wrong main course was brought for my guest (embarrassing on a first date) and there was a loooong wait before the right one emerged. It wasn't a disaster but did not go well. We were offered a discount on the bill, which was welcome. visited The Betjeman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 01 Dec 2016

Althought the quality of the food was good, overall our experience was disappointing. I booked a table for 8 of us on the website for midday, and, under 'any special requests' asked that you confirm that we would be able to select from either the all day (lunch) menu, or the brunch menu. (On the website it says that brunch is served up to 12.30pm). I received an automatic email confirmation, but nobody bothered to answer my question. When we arrived at just after midday, the staff were rushed and didn't make us feel welcome, and we were informed that brunch was only served until midday. Several of us didn't want a filling main course, but the starters were (understandably) small. The brunch menu was what we wanted. With some picky children in our party we made one or two special requests about leaving garnishes off their burgers. These requests were only partly fulfilled. Four stars for the quality of the food, one star for service = two stars overall. visited The Betjeman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 26 Nov 2016

Worst experience I have had in ten years of using the Betjeman Arms. Booked but no table in the dining room. Ate in the bar had people crawling round my feet to plug in phones and computers. Dining room remained empty through all this time. Eventually half way through the meal the manager offered to move us. Applaud the manager for a belated attempt at good service. But my experience was ruined. Dreadful, abysmal, unsatisfactory are poor adjectives to describe the experience and the customer service. I hope this is and aberration which will not be experienced again. After ten years of good meals and experiences I hope I do not have to say goodbye to the Betjeman Arms. visited The Betjeman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 23 Nov 2016

Overall was OK, however, as it was pre-lunch drinks after our wedding registration before we went to The Gilbert Scott for lunch, was disappointed when I adjective see bad snacks was only offered nuts or crisps. I would have expected a choice which was not made clear when I reserved the area in The Pantry and felt embarrassed for my quests that we were unable to offer more of a choice. Would consider twice before reserving in the future, but staff were fine although one waitress come across very cold and uninterested when faked for the bar menu. visited The Betjeman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 29 Oct 2016

An oasis of peace in the middle of the bustle of a railway station. Great food, good service and fabulous beers in a country pub setting. Will definitely return. visited The Betjeman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 27 Oct 2016

Food and service were very good. It seemed a little gloomy in the restaurant. Perhaps better table lighting. Before we have been at lunch time and this is not an issue. visited The Betjeman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 15 Oct 2016

Very good thank you. Good service and friendly service. I would just ask though that in future the coffee could be hotter. By the time it comes out it is quite warm. Many thanks. Perhaps serving it in china cups would be better as the paper cups become cold very quickly. Thanks. visited The Betjeman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 11 Oct 2016

We are all a bit suspicious of railway taverns with limited repeat business but I have twice found the Betjeman Arms remarkably good. My mackerel with golden beetroot was excellent and the waitress took the time to find us the most suitable table. visited The Betjeman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 09 Oct 2016

We took our grandchildren and our dog which was great. The food was pricey but that's to be expected. However the quality was average. Would give it another try but was disappointed. visited The Betjeman Arms - Geronimo Inns on 09 Oct 2016

Perfect spot to grab some food and a few drinks before you head off on your travels. I was lucky enough to catch the sun so I could sit on terrace which was lovely!
