We’re suckers for a venue with a quirky name. This Angel favourite firmly falls into such a category, drawing inspiration from Joseph Grimaldi; a 19^th century Islington resident and creator of the modern-day clown as we know it.

The Joker of Penton Street is, therefore, a place that refuses to take itself too seriously. It’s a laid-back, inviting boozer priding itself on its excellent British food, a great music programme and a divine upstairs private hire function room. Nestled in the heart of Angel, entertainment and big foods are at the centre of this pubbing pleasure with a stage set for comedy and improv on the regular. In the kitchen you'll find rotating patrons from London's tasty street food scene and eateries that have made a name for themselves. Burger Bear has already had a residency here as well as the Tongue ‘n Cheek guys. 

Burgers are a huge strength, especially when matched with something from their good range of beers from the Hackney local Laine’s Brewery. There’s regular live music, the private hire area can facilitate DJs, live music and comedy, and with a 3am licence at the weekends, there’s every reason to linger and get to know this charming Islington pub a little better.
