Description
Starting in January, celebrate the greatest jazz albums of the twentieth century at The Jazz Cafe.
We are teaming up with our cities more talented young jazz musicians, to recreate classic releases from Charlie Parker, Dave Brubeck, Miles Davies and much more.
This week sees the turn of Ornette Coleman's 'The Shape of Jazz to Come'.
The album is rightly identified an one of the albums that changed the face of Jazz. Playing on his plastic sax, the vibrant and sometimes frenetic compositions are a perfect example of Colemans unique take on bebop. The album features the playing of his working quartet: Don Cherry (trumpet), Charlie Haden (Bass) and Billy Higgins (drums).
To play this incredible album live, we are delighted to team up The Tony Kofi Quartet. Kofi is one of Britains most exciting and firey young sax players and alongside his quartet has established a reputation for bringing to life the compositions of 20th Century jazz greats.
