Skylounge is a unique hangout atop the Doubletree Hilton, Tower Bridge. Accessed through the hotel on Pepys Street, it sits just outside the fast paced hustle and bustle of The City. It is a bar that carries a real air of decadence, so I was desperate to try it out.
A short walk down a candle lit hallway brings you into the main bar, with the breathtaking views of London instantly stunning guests. This is no black box of a bar; three sides of the space are decked out with floor to ceiling non-reflective windows, giving you the best views of London landmarks such as; Tower Bridge, The Thames and The Gherkin.
With sultry deep tones, the décor could be described as “modern minimal”. This adds to the niche appeal of Skylounge as it is the breathtaking views of London that create the vibrant back drop that other bars struggle to match. Forty or so, deep leather chairs and high stools make up the indoor seating area whilst outdoors, the Mediterranean decking, equipped with plenty of additional seating and a BBQ, evokes further surprise.
When the sun shines, Skylounge makes a great place for some lunch and drinks.
The Atmosphere and Clientèle
Due to its busy location, Skylounge usually has a constant flow of people on both weeknights and weekends. Although service is usually swift, during the weekends it may be advantageous to visit slightly later, after the percentage of hotel guests have retired for the night.
You will tend to find a lot of city folk during the week, whereas the weekend brings an eclectic mix of patrons from hen do’s to well-heeled travellers. The bar, subtly illuminated by candles, creates a tranquil ambience whilst you enjoy listening to a blend of soulful lounge music and watch over the city.
The stunning views from Skylounge are reason enough to head on up for a drink.
There is a whole host of cocktails available at Skylounge including their tantalizing range of flavoured Mojitos, which tend to be a favourite among guests. Their signature cocktail ‘Sky At Night’ is a fruity Gin based cocktail, perfect for the summer months. As well as the cocktails, guests can choose from a wide range of wines, beers and whiskeys. Alongside the drinks are a variety of bar snacks, and Tapas is also available for anyone after a tasty snack.
At night Skylounge is one of the more beautiful rooftop bars in London.
This is truly a gem of a bar hidden away upon the rooftops of London, perfect for after work drinks, dates and special occasions. The location would hint that Skylounge could be a little pretentious, yet the staff are welcoming and accommodating which makes for a relaxed and highly recommended evening out.
