H1780 Tap & Still


A vital organ in the Baltic Triangle, this bar, restaurant, brewery and distillery is the brainchild of entrepreneur Stephen Crawley. Having bought up an old warehouse, Crawley transformed it into a gastronomic haven with an urban brewery, distillery, three bars, a kitchen and a shop. Industrial and open plan in design, guests eat and drink right next to the brewery. 

Heading up the kitchen is James Dodds, formerly of Darsham Nurseries Cafe in Suffolk. His simple and delicious menu offers contemporary takes on traditional British and European cuisine. With a mixture of snacks, 'on toasts' and main meals, diners can enjoy dishes such as smoke haddock rarebit, Spanish fried cauliflower and suet pastry pies.

Given the presence of an on-site brewery and distillery, the drinks menu offers more than a few specialities. The H1780 Tap & Still is in fact home to the revival of Liverpool's best-loved breweries, Higson's, which closed in the 1990's. Crawley was given the go-ahead to reinvent Higson's beer and has launched three new beers - two cask ales and a pilsner - along with brewing the popular Love Lane ales. The venue also launched its on gin brand from the distillery, Ginsmiths of Liverpool, which offers eclectic infusions such as sea holly and marshmallow.
