Description

The Pit brings barbecued meats, Americana cocktails and craft beers to its subterranean space in the city centre.

Whatever you do, come on an empty stomach. The Pit’s Oklahoma hand-built smoker cooks meat low and slow over hardwood, and the results are succulent and tender. Play it straight with a full baby back of ribs, share a Pit Platter or seek out the Pit Master if you fancy a challenge; a meaty medley of beef, chicken, pulled pork & streaky bacon stacked high with fries!

There’s a great range of craft beers and continental wines in support, and a varied cocktail line-up featuring classics and unique creations. Look out for the Taste of the Americas section in particular, packed with playful creations inspired by our cousins across the pond.

Ideal for a BBQ feast or a couple of chilled cocktails, The Pit is also an excellent private party option in Leeds city centre, with cocktail masterclasses and bookable ping pong in The Den and private dining in the Bunker and White Room!

Firstly, nothing was organised. We where told to just grab any table, even though we had a reservation. Secondly, a £25 deposit was paid, which I was advised would be redeemable against the drinks. However, when I got to the bar and explained this, I was told this was not the case. This made me look really stupid. The worker then confined with someone higher and was advised actually this is right, and it comes off the total from the tab. Once we where ready to leave, we went to pay, and the £25 had not been deducted. We had to remind them, which led to us waiting around 10mins for this to be sorted. Awful service. visited The Pit City Centre on 31 Dec 2016

Pre booked a table for tea with friends. The reservation was then 'released' without my request. We weren't certain what released meant. A telephone number was left to phone on the email. The number was rung half a dozen times with a message left. We received no response so emailed to check that we still had a booking. It was confirmed you had cancelled our booking. We were told that you are very busy that day but try to book us in. You booked us in to the games area, then cancelled the booking and amended it to half an hour later. On arrival there was no booking covering the table prior to our booking so it was unclear why our reservation could not cover the requested earlier time. We received a barrage of emails.. 7 in number for one reservation which seemed excessive. PS bring back your excellent green beans in garlic butter they were awesome! Also the starter and sides seem limited in choice. Atmosphere was excellent. Food and drinks tables services was good. visited The Pit City Centre on 17 Dec 2016

Im afraid it wasnt a very good experience! Lack off staff meant very poor service, waiting 20 mins for drinks, seeing our starters go to several tables before finally reaching us and we gave up on ordering a 2nd lot of drinks. Food was ok but nothing special. Not somewhere we would rush back to! visited The Pit City Centre on 24 Nov 2016

Food was lovely. Service was poor - friendly but very, very slow. Also 50% off on food wasn't all food (ie the 3 for £15 deal was not included, so made it confusing, even though this wasn't stated in Ts&Cs visited The Pit City Centre on 22 Nov 2016

The food was delicious but the bottomless lunch was a fruitless enterprise given how thinly stretched the servers were. It took over 20 minutes to get a menu and order our drinks, and a further 10 before the drinks arrived. Unfortunately the same issue continued so the lunch didn't quite feel bottomless despite the efforts of the staff. visited The Pit City Centre on 19 Nov 2016

Visited saturday evening (19/11/16). Our first visit and we'd booked a table for food - the menu on the website looked really good. Went inside and waited for a while at the bottom of the stairs but nobody helped us. I asked at the bar but was told "this is the bar! you'll have to grab someone on the floor". So I did. Managed to get someone's attention who was rushing back to the bar with empty glasses. He took our name, disappeared for a few seconds to check the booking and then showed us to a table. The table was covered in dirty pots so we stood there a couple of minutes and watched him clean it. Then he said someone would be with us in 10 minutes to take our order. He didn't leave us with any menus so we had to look them up on The Pit website on our phones. The table was still sticky with beer. 15 minutes went by and nobody came - so we walked out! Our advice - don't go on a friday/saturday evening expecting to eat anything, they're more interested in only serving people who are just there to drink!! visited The Pit City Centre on 19 Nov 2016

Gotta say we were really pleasantly surprised. 8 of us on Saturday night and we'd not really chosen you for the food based on past experiences. That said we had a wide variety off the menu and everyone was really happy. The service was great, your people are genuine and can't do enough. Bit too dark to read menus though! All in all it was great and we'll do that again, thanks visited The Pit City Centre on 12 Nov 2016

Good food excellent value and choice. Service was a little slow, our table wasn't ready but we were soon accommodated. There was another large group which seemed to slow down the kitchen but the food was worth waiting for. Unfortunately something had been spilt on the long seat against the wall and it wasn't noticed until we returned to work but a member of our group had what appeared to be sticky BBQ sauce on the back of their trousers. visited The Pit City Centre on 07 Nov 2016

Had a table booked for a group of 6 at 16:00 upon arrival we was told there was no booking in our name. Then the staff found the booking but tried telling me it was for 12:30 and not the 16:00 that I had booked. Thankfully I had the booking confirmation to prove otherwise. After a 10 minute wait we was finally seated. The service was very slow and we spent most of our time with empty glasses. I feel this was due to us having the unlimited lunch. Eaten here a couple of times & never had any problems but on this occasion the service was very hit & miss & the quality of the food very poor. We ordered the sharing fajitas. Everything at best was luke warm, there was only 3 pieces of chicken & the beef was inedible. really don't think there is enough food for sharing. On the plus side, we got a refund Loulou2662 visited The Pit City Centre on 13 May 2016

We really enjoyed our meal before we headed off to the theatre. Bonus because we were going the theatre we got 20% discount off our food bill. We didn't know this previously as there was no promotional flyers/posters to say this. Luckily my beady eyed friend spotted it on the TV. Thank you Fiona visited The Pit City Centre on 06 May 2016

Went on Friday evening for a works event. Service at first was fine before we started to order our food. There were 9 of us, when we ordered at the bar, one of our party made a mistake and asked if he could change his order immediately. He was told it was too late as it has now been sent to the kitchen and being made. 7 of us had our food. By the time we finished which was over 40 minutes later, we enquired about the other 2 meals - they had not even started making them. One of these being the one that was ordered incorrectly and couldn't be changed because the kitchen was suppose to be making it already! Complained but the staff didn't seem bothered and was basically trying to blame each other for the mistake. Cancelled the remaining 2 meals and asked for a refund. Very disappointing as I've had good experience here previously when they had the old food menu. Simon visited The Pit City Centre on 15 Apr 2016

Shocking service. Arrived for our table couldn't get to the bar to be served there was no waiters to be seen. After 10 minutes of trying to find someone we it took them around 5-10 mins to move people from our table which was right near the stairs and the door. After that no body came back to give us a menu to order the food we waited 30 mins and ended up leaving. Very disappointed have been to the pit before and loved it won't be returning terrible terrible service Danielleemily visited The Pit City Centre on 27 Mar 2016

The Pit! Went on a Thursday Evening with my partner. Booked the table on the phone for 8:30 but arrived over half an hour earlier and the staff looked after is and found a table in the booths straight away. Great beers on offer and the good was really good. Nice presentation and a good size but most important it was tasty. Sad to see it so quiet however, if you serve your beers in a a scooner at the same price as a pint at venues of the same standard then you are going to narrow the appeal. It would seem that The Pit has fallen into the same 'Pit' as the rest of the cool and trendy city suburbia in that area. Pricing themselves out of the market. Too expensive and not the best vibe when its dead because of the price tag and that includes neighbouring businesses. The price doesn't match the products I'm afraid.

Booked my hen do at The Pit for 15people. We had a private room and had booked to eat followed by a cocktail master class. It started of abysmally when nobody from the events management team had bothered to tell the staff that we were eating. Once arranged so that we could eat someone came for our food order before we had been given menus?! The chips we ordered as sides to share arrived as a starter, but we couldn't eat them for 15 mins anyway as had no plates or cutlery. Additionally there was no music in the room and a large group of rugby fans outside thoroughly enjoying the game on tv. HOWEVER, despite this appalling start the master class and the guy taking it were FANTASTIC! He was such a great host and entertainer who completely rescued the evening for us - even managed to get us some free bottles of fizz to make up for dinner! Thoroughly recommend the cocktail classes and a huge thanks to our host for making the evening great. In future management need to sort themselves out so front of house staff aren't put under so much pressure. We paid over £700 for our night with you (not including numerous drinks from the bar) and I felt bitterly disappointed and upset at the lack of organisation for my event. rsmyth visited The Pit City Centre on 27 Feb 2016

The 2nd time we have been while the 50% January offer is on. I have been once in the past for a works xmas night out. I had the black & blue burger (the same as my last visit) and my wife had the steak. The food was great and would highly recommend, especially while the 50% offer is on. I love Ales as well and they had loads to choose from. The staff were friendly and kept checking if everything was ok. mrcurrylover visited The Pit City Centre on 22 Jan 2016

Booked to eat on a weds night with a 50% off voucher. When we arrived the waitress said the kitchen was busy and we might have quite a wait - we ordered and said we didn't mind waiting. About an hour later the waitress asked if we had our food yet, we said no (she's the waitress could she not remember she hadn't yet brought us food?!) turns out she had forgotten to put our order in! Waited another 20 mins for food, the waitress apologised but then said 'you're getting 50% off anyway' - oh that's okay then don't bother putting our order in for an hour! - My piggy burger was good but not at all worth the full price. My husbands sloppy joe sandwich was tiny and missing the jalapeños and again not worth the full price. We used to go to the Headingley Pit a lot before (when it was trio) and loved it - but Wouldn't bother going back to Leeds for food even with a voucher, poor service Stacey visited The Pit City Centre on 20 Jan 2016

This was the first time that I had ever visited a 'Pit' before; this visit was to celebrate my Birthday with 4 close friends. When we arrived, we were not greeted by anyone. In fact, we had to force our way through the crowd at the bar in order to ask for someone to seat us (we had booked in advance). When someone actually recognised that we were here, they did not know where to seat us. It took a good 20 minutes to actually be seated at the right table, all whilst we were just aimlessly left to stand in the centre of the bar area. In terms of the menu, there isn't that much choice and the prices are quite high considering it is a bar. There is a lot of emphasis on cocktails, but even these were obscure and dissatisfying. Moreover, there is nowhere in the menu which states that drinks are available on tap, nor what these are or how much they cost. We only discovered these options when asking the waiter. Another fatal flaw: we waited for 3/4 of an hour for our food to arrive after the waiter had taken our order (in which case, by the way, we had to ask to be served). This is diabolical considering the actual number of tables. Nonetheless, some of the food did arrive, however, two out of the five of us were still left waiting for food whilst everyone else was half way through their meal. Why not provide the entire party with their food at the same time? The food was okay. The burger did not taste like beef and it was very salty and soggy. Not worth the £10 price tag. To round off such a rubbish experience, a waiter decided that he would clear plates away whilst other members of the party were still eating their meal. Not good. Oh, and I forgot to add the fixation the 'Pit' seems to have with asking for ID. We were asked for ID before entering the front door (it was 19:30), we were asked for ID when ordering alcohol to ACCOMPANY our food and were also asked to present our ID whilst EATING our meal. Sheer rudeness. All in all, I would NOT recommend the 'Pit'. In fact, it's more of a dive than a 'pit'. lucymjh visited The Pit City Centre on 05 Dec 2015

Fabulous venue for our Christmas Party. The food was amazing and the service was even better. The staff could not do enough for us and with a party of 30+ all arriving at different times they were brilliant in holding back food and making sure everyone had a drink. We had the 3 course menu and every course was delicious. The Pit was very well organised and had a great atmosphere for drinks after - I think its already got everyone's vote again for next years Christmas party! clairer84 visited The Pit City Centre on 04 Dec 2015

Good food, staff were great, food was late arrivig at 3pm instead of the requested 2:30pm so one of our party missed out on his main course. We did not get our paid for drinks vouchers until 30 mins after we had arrived. Overall though, it was a great night, great venue, delicious food and a very positive experience.
