We took cool and quirky The Lost and Found for a spin

Fancy a wedge of whimsy with your cocktail? Look no further. Mythical Professor Elizabeth E. Lightfoot is making her fabled presence known on Bristol’s Clifton Triangle. This is The Lost & Found’s latest opening and the team are as warm and friendly as ever. Whereas themes of Victoriana botany, ornithology and chemistry have come to cities before us, this time there’s an astrological slant to proceedings. From boozy bottomless brunches to afternoon tea, evening cocktails and decadent dinners - we were all too happy have our head in the clouds.

Venue and Atmosphere

This building may have seen various guises over the years, but it now feels utterly unique. Here, fresh trends like deep navy walls, oversized palms, velvet chairs and brass everything have been given a timeless twist. Thanks to the bar and restaurant’s mythical spirit, glittering astrology-style chandeliers dangle from the ceiling, dark wood panelling melts behind low lighting and enormous tumbling flower garlands just cry out for your favourite Instagram filter #floralsforspring. There’s a great soundtrack too, so if you’re planning to hit the town later, you’re in the right place.

Food and Drink

This is one of those menus that makes anyone happy – from your vegan mate (hello, chipotle and quinoa chilli with oodles of avocado) to your carnivore boyfriend who loves nothing better than a steak on date night – accompanied by peppercorn sauce, béarnaise sauce or garlic butter, naturally.

We landed somewhere in the middle, kicking things off with a huge sharing plate of succulent fritto misto (£18), complete with a light, crispy batter, sizable lemon wedges and ample aioli for dipping. Plenty big enough for two, or even three if you’re not ravenous! Next, we couldn’t resist the authentic hand-finished pizzas (£9.50 - £12.50). Again, they’re huge, so order accordingly. The standout topping of the night was olives, spinach, mascarpone and mozzarella, with a touch of nutmeg and a runny egg centre stage. Delicious!

Not sure you want pudding? No problem – choose one and ask to make it mini. That way, your tiny pudding will arrive with a delicious, complementary cocktail. We’re were head-over-heels for the mini Earl Grey panna cotta (£7 alone; £10 with cocktail) paired with a gin, lemon and vanilla cocktail.

And don’t go thinking the cocktails are an afterthought. This is where the team get really creative – you’ll know what I mean when you see the menus. Pages of cocktails, from signature Professor themed tipples to sparkling and classic options. In the middle of the menu book, an astrological inspired ‘Taste Map’, helping you choose the perfect flavour combination. This being her stomping ground, we had to try the Ms Elizabeth E. Lightfoot, a decadent rum concoction with yellow Chartreuse, Crème de Mûre, cranberry juice, almond syrup and a sprinkling of edible glitter - to remind us of Ms Lightfoot’s much-loved stars…
