With lots of claw-footed baths, zany prints and four-poster beds, The Artist Residence Hotels are the sort of places that Instagrammers gobble up greedily, heaping likes and 'wish I could be there's on pretty much every picture. It’s little wonder the boutique chain is quite so dreamy, with owner Justin Salisbury inviting in local artists to each one and - in exchange for a free stay - asking them to add a piece of art. Brighton’s outpost is as eclectic as one would expect from a seaside town that notches up more creatives than a cheap coffee shop. The Fix, the hotel’s bar, is as pretty as the bedrooms, and proves so popular that it is pretty much full on a Saturday night.

Looking out onto Regency Square, the bar’s view may now be hindered by the 360 Tower, but beyond the giant pole, lies Brighton’s famous seashore. If you’re finding the tower a bit much, the interiors of this sexy spot provide ample distraction, from neon signs against charcoal black walls to collections of vials and jars lining the bar. The cocktail list is a chalked up menu of what’s in season and errs on the side of health. Though with cocktails this delicious, drinking lashings of booze is made even sweeter by a cleaner conscience. I went for the bar’s take on a martini, the Seasonal Martinez (£8) which mixed blood orange, grapefruit, vermouth and gin, and was a zingy take on an old favourite. If the cocktail list doesn’t take your fancy, the whizzy bar staff will whip up anything your heart desires, with an inordinate number of espresso martinis being whisked out to couples on velvet sofas and on the high tables circling the room.
