A four storey emporium in the heart of the city, The Milk Thistle is known to many as the younger, if slightly bigger sister of Bristol's premier prohibition-style bar, Hyde & Co. Housed in one of the city's most historic buildings, the main bar is located on the first floor and is decked out with tables, quirky furnishings, candles and plenty of personality. Bar number two is one floor up, and though still featuring an impressive selection of lampshades, you'll also find dark oak wall panels and enough suave furniture to make Don Draper blush.

The other two floors - The Attic at the top and The Vault in the basement - are primarily available for private functions and bigger groups. A popular spot for parties of this sort, the venue also has a number of private dining options to choose from. Filled with rabbit portraits, full bookcases and original quirks aplenty, those in search of a decadent-cum-twee side of Bristol won't be disappointed. Expect a young, fun but non-prentious crowd who don't mind splashing out on the odd pricey cocktail. 

Far from just master cocktail connoisseurs, The Milk Thistle also serves up a varied menu of Champagnes, wines, spirits, as well as a quality selection of international beers. Juggling a relatively busy events rota - think anything from live music to circus nights - any evening you visit has a different vibe, though naturally things heat up party-wise Thursday-Saturday (when the bar stays open until a heady 3am).
