19-year-old Mark lives in Highgate, a district of city-centre Birmingham, and lives from one DWP payment to the next. Although he cares for his drug-addict mum and her new-born baby, it is a relationship that is completely dysfunctional. Mark is being forced to live a life he never signed up for, and he seems to be willing to take desperate measures to change things forever. But how far will he go?”

This harrowing play is a poignant and emotionally charged monologue about a young man trying to find his place in a world that doesn’t want him. Mark’s tale will chew you up, spit you out, and then make you wonder why you cared in the first place.

The production appeared at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2015, where it was shortlisted for the Brighton Fringe Award for Excellence. It has since returned to Edinburgh, and has been seen at Festivals in Bath, Brighton and Carlisle. It transferred to the King’s Head Theatre in London in October 2017.

Brum-based Gritty Theatre are fast gaining a reputation for exciting, visceral theatre. ‘Bones’, first seen in Birmingham, was Gritty Theatre’s inaugural production. and it makes a triumphant return to its home city.

Warning: the production contains explicit language, nudity and scenes of a sexual nature.

“Ambitious, impressive … utterly convincing, poignant and humbling” (Broadway Baby)
