Description
Verden is now closed.
Verden has turned beautiful simplicity into an artform. This charming eatery serves the very best in British flavours, wine, meat and cheese. Adding its innovative and fresh take on things, this is an exemplary contemporary restaurant bar.
Like the food, Verden's interiors are stripped back to the bare minimum. Cleverly and minutely thought out details and shapes prevent the place seeming stark; instead you have consummate style. The colourway is all greys, shadows and blacks picked out by statement strip lighting. Due to the warm greys and amber lighting, there is an inviting ambience to the place. Snazzy little bar stools with buckled leather backs add a touch of wit and edge. Generally a flawless effort at ultra-modern bistro.
Now this is a menu that's clearly been given some thought. Flavours are lifted from comfort food, nursery food and English heritage then re-conceived into clean and yummy dishes. For breakfast, it's got to be buttermilk pancakes with berries and vanilla mascarpone (£7.50). Have two courses for £10 or three courses for £12 for lunch; with fodder such as beetroot cured smoked salmon, roasted onion squash with hazelnuts and spiced quince cheesecake on offer. It's steak night every Tuesday, and if you fancy feasting with family and friends there's sharing deals from £25pp.
