Trap music has come a long way from its mainly hip-hop roots inception inspired in the crack (trap house) dens of the southern states of the US. Georgia rapper T.I claims to have first coined the term with his 2003 album 'Trap Muzik', but since then its really been all about the production. Fast forward to London in 2013 and we find a very different scene. The accessibility and popularity of its 808 arrangements is clear where we can hear Trap influences on nearly every aspect of urban and bass music. TV advertisements, pop remixes and a clued up new wave of DJs and producers have made sure the sound is here to stay.

Established earlier this year, Trap93 takes over the Nest in Dalston, East London every Tuesday. With its growing reputation within the capitals music scene, the consistency and frequency of their events has been impressive, as is the diversity of their sound. Trap93 has emerged as probably the best destination to hear just how much music has evolved and where it is heading in the future. Their weekly event has brought to our attention a whole host of home grown DJs and producers this summer such as Calm Hype, Harikiri and Stinkahbell as well as hosting a handful of international artists to drop their sets. With recent link ups involving garage promoters Obscure and bass music label Senseless Records and some exciting line ups in the pipeline, the next student term is looking good for Trap and Bass fans returning to the capital this month.

Upcoming events featuring the likes of Myth, Templa, Tigerblood and Stookie Sound are destined to go off in coming weeks offering a welcome alternative to the House and Dubstep nights on the student circuit. Hosted at the Nest on Dalston's main strip the club is the perfect setting. Its underground, its dark, and it boast a heavy sound system which all makes you feel you might just be back on a Trap house. Part of the appeal of Trap93's movement might also be their understanding of how to reach the audience. For example, DJ sets are broadcast live in a boiler room-esque set up to viewers online and a street fashion photo shoot happens once a week in Shoreditch. Upcoming releases as record label are on the horizon too making Trap93 a very hard brand to ignore.
