Alfie Bird's - Bar Review

The latest addition to The Custard Factory, Alfie Bird's is making a big impact on Digbeth. Whether it's for their stone-baked pizzas, tequila cocktails or to see a live band, people are flocking, mind the bird pun, to this venue.

The Venue

Spanning over four floors, Alfie Birds has got something for everyone that walks through the door. After checking out the ground floor dining area with its quirky, mix-matched furniture and wall art that only add to the character of this venue, we discovered the egg-shaped chairs (they're too tempting not to sit in) and balcony perfect for relaxing with a drink. Step into Libby's Lounge on the next floor, their brightly decorated cocktail bar specialising in creating the Birmingham’s best tequila cocktails; I loved the 60s-esque flower power wallpaper and leather sofas which I could imagine getting very comfy on with a tequila in my hand. Finally the top floor hosts 'The Loft', a space for live music nights and gigs, or even the perfect spot to hire out for a party?

The Food and Drinks

We started with a round of cocktails, and at 2 for £10 between 4-9pm from Sunday to Thursday, it would have been rude not to... I opted for the French Mar-tea-ni which arrived in a vintage little teacup. Quirky presentation to cover up a bad cocktail? Not at all! It was fantastic - the first sip even caused a 'wow' to escape my lips! It was perfectly balanced, light and just delicious, as were all the other cocktails we tried during the evening.

The bargain deals don't end there. With daily specials on food, including 2 for £10 burger Tuesdays and 2-4-1 pizza Wednesdays, you can have an evening out of great food and drinks whilst not breaking the bank! Alfie Birds offer a range of tempting burgers and pizzas, focusing on these two classics and doing them really really well! I had the yummy Goat's Cheese and Red Onion Pizza from their wood-fired pizza oven (yes you can watch them coming out, and yes it smells amazing!); for the more adventurous, try the intriguing sounding 'Balti Triangle' which comes complete with onion bhajis. Other tasty treats include heavenly dough balls, cheesy nachos, and a selection of custard-based desserts.

Atmosphere

Alfie Bird's has the most chilled, easy atmosphere; it's easily somewhere I can picture myself coming to regularly for an unfussy evening relaxing with friends over some cocktails and food. The service was great too, and all the staff were friendly and chatty. Although they checked on us a few times, they weren't overbearing at all, and I liked that they didn't keep pestering us but instead left us to chill and enjoy our night.
